recent things

 

 Well since my last post I have finished school. And since then I have been keeping busy. The photos are two recent drawings. The one on the left will be an illustration and the the one on  the right I plan to make into an oil painting.

I have been actively sketching and planning on my contribution to the next issue of LINEWORK. Expect in the near future thumbnails and such relating to comics.

 

And this is a silkscreen that I made this past semester in my printmaking class.  I need to photograph it better but for now this will suffice.

I have been actively printmaking during this last semester. Now that I have more time I will photograph them better and post better pics.

I made this photo litho plate recently. These are the proofs on newsprint. Expect a more finished edition along with some proofs on some nice warm white paper.

Hey gang! What's new you might ask?

 

Well it is good to know that there is someone out there 

whose grammar and spelling is as bad as mine.

 

I went to a fashion show and thought I might die 

from the tent collapsing because the wind was so strong. 

 

I have been scrambling to finish stuff. I am so close to having this fully screen printed zine done. These photos are the large cut sheets that need to be trimmed down and separated.

what's the deal

update: My attention to personal projects has declined. I am now focused on school work and really trying to find time to return over due books to my library.

 

I have been working with halftones lately. I recently came into a lot of paper and I am scrambling to put together a new zine. It will probably be Dirty Hands #2  This next issue will be full bleed and contain a few photographs that I have taken. I might overlay them with images or create borders I am not sure yet. But hopefully I can get all of this done with in the fall.

I found these two pages of a comic that I was doing back in 2008? I remember this was after I graduated from high school and most likely from my freshman year at columbia? 

I had a vague concept of a storyline and I know that I stopped doing this comic because I had no idea how to end it. Its funny because you can definitely see an Anders Nilsen influence in it.

So I have spent a greater part of these few weeks painting. I took a mental break from drawing and really doing comics mostly because I was just exhausting myself. Instead I picked up painting, something that I did more of in the past and am sort of picking it up now again. The two paintings are still a work in progress.

 

Also I have a new work space! I got this spare room for myself which is nice because I finally have a comfortable setup for my drafting table.  The only downside is this is in a room that was once part of a garage so its design differently, it has carpeting and no heating or air conditioning. It sometimes gets really hot in there.

So here is the cover art for the next issue of memories and delusions. I plan to silkscreen this on possible a red or black cover stock. I still need to finish up the contents in side. Hopefully this will all be printed by winter.

Well I am back from Mexico. I am sharing these photos from my trip. It was in a nutshell a lot of visiting family, eating almost every three hours, and a lot of rain. It was good. 

I also have some pages from my sketch book, I decided to only bring a brush and ink. The result is a more fluid line that I am liking. I will upload those once I find the cord that connects my printer/scan to my computer.

If you are reading this I am already Mexico, I will be back in ten days. I am just going to leave this blog with a few pictures that were laying around in my room and felt like scanning.

 

The top image is a poor attempt at pointillism that I did in my freshman year of high school. 

The second is an actual photo I took in Mexico, I really like the use of type.

Continued progress

So I have spent a good portion of my summer so far working on some personal projects. Right now I am working on the cover art for the second issue of memories and delusions. Also I cleaned my work space so I now have a decent place to work on things.

recent projects

 

I have started on this short mini comic piece about a face tumor named bud. I wrote a whole script this time and I am doing all the lettering first. I am eager to draw but I know starting with the lettering will minimize any problems later.

I was working on another piece but then my desk lamp broke, which served as the light source for my makeshift light table under this glass table. So since then my work table has turned into this: 

 

I don't know how this happened all this stuff piled up in less than a day. 

well that is all. Time to hit the drawing board again.

The face tumor idea is something that I am playing with in a new short comic piece. I will update as time progresses.

This was the other comic that was included in Linework. I really had no idea what I was doing with this.

I made this for Echo magazine. It was an accompanying illustration about a short article on senses. 

LINEWORK

Big news. Linework the Columbia College anthology of comics was released! This here are photos of my copy and I must admit it looks fantastic. Hats of to the three editors, Kevin Budnik, Max Morris and Nick Drnaso, they did a really good job.

I have two pieces in there, the bob boardman comic which I posted recently as well as another comic called Lunch Time which I will post later this week. Its pretty great I would try to get your hands on one asap, because the work in there is quite good.
