So here is the cover art for the next issue of memories and delusions. I plan to silkscreen this on possible a red or black cover stock. I still need to finish up the contents in side. Hopefully this will all be printed by winter.

Continued progress

So I have spent a good portion of my summer so far working on some personal projects. Right now I am working on the cover art for the second issue of memories and delusions. Also I cleaned my work space so I now have a decent place to work on things.

some of the details. This will be a bit larger than the last zine measuring at 7" x 8.5"

Some of the content that will go inside.

recent projects

I have started on this short mini comic piece about a face tumor named bud. I wrote a whole script this time and I am doing all the lettering first. I am eager to draw but I know starting with the lettering will minimize any problems later.

I was working on another piece but then my desk lamp broke, which served as the light source for my makeshift light table under this glass table. So since then my work table has turned into this:

I don't know how this happened all this stuff piled up in less than a day.

well that is all. Time to hit the drawing board again.

I should be editing my paper...

But instead of doing that I took my time to procrastinate and show some pictures. YAY

So this is my cork board, I pin things that I find interesting, inspiring or funny to me. I know people have blogs or tumblers but I prefer to have something physical. The old postcard, the stickers or photographs are all physical objects that have a more permanent meaning than most things I see on the internet. I kind of prefer it that way.

This hanging on my wall is one of the drawings for wanderlust. I think a lot of people were pretty surprised to learn that the original drawing for the comic was on a 19x24 inch piece of paper. All of it was done with crow quill pen nibs, a brush and ink.

I think I procrastinated enough for one post.

zines and more zines

see all of that, those are two boxes full of zines and I will have some more printed tomorrow. So why all the zines?

well I will have a table at the upcoming Chicago zine fest.

It is this Saturday the 26th from 10-5 pm, at the Conaway center, Columbia College Chicago 1104 S. Wabash Ave.

I have some some mini comics, random drawings and art zines,  I am hoping to block print some stickers to sell along with the zines. Maybe I will bring out some old prints.

So for those who are around that Saturday stop by and say hi.

I'm busy

Yep, more on this latter. But I'm pretty tired and I really don't want to start visualizing data for my project that is due on Tuesday.

progress continues

So I am working on this little piece right here, I again am reworking the content of my next zine. It went from 16 pages to 20. I added 2 more comics and this drawing. It seems that the more I work on the zine the more I want to edit and remove and replace pieces from it.Hopefully these last revisions will be it.

Also I stopped by quimbys  last week and picked up some nice zines. My collection of zines has been growing steady and has been a great resource for inspiration and ideas.

so close

This pile right here, is the majority of the content of my next zine. I have a two page comic left to do and front/back cover. I am very close to finalizing the content, after that it is layout/editing and printing. I am shooting for a late February print date.  lets hope I can make it.

pen and ink the old school way

I have been doing more pen and ink drawings using the crow quill nibs. I recently picked this up from my drawing the graphic novel class. I must admit that I did not like learning it at the time but I warmed up to it recently. I think I like this better than microns, only because microns are not nearly as dark, and the tips wear away way to easily.

The drawing above is this rat character I made with a section cut out.

testing

I did this pretty quickly, I am trying to visualize this I idea I have for a project. Not sure at the moment where to take it.

finnishing up and new projects

I have taken this winter break time to finish up this drawing I have had, it is to big to scan at home. I plan to color it digitally and I think I want to make this into a silkscreen poster. I am thinking several colors printed on some nice paper it would make a nice edition. I still do not know.

This is my work area, a small fold table. It is a down grade from my large drafting desk, I got rid of the desk to make room for more space. I still have the desk just placed in another room, hopefully one day I can find the right balance of computer and table/desk work space. I started a new drawing this one focusing on traffic I also plan to make this one a silkscreen poster.

working on watch me

This past semester I made a small mini comic called watch me. I have posted pages from that on this blog so far, and I will post all of it eventually. But after finishing it I did not like the cover so much. I gave it to a few people and there are some mistakes. So I plan to reprint it, adding 4 more pages, one more single page comic, title page and maybe some endpapers? not sure at this point about the end papers.

what I am sure of though is the cover. The current cover was made half assed just to get something done on time for the class. I like things to make some sort of sense, and the text reads as if this comic was about melting meat parts, or some zombie trippy horror story. Watch Me is in fact about a high school gym class, drawing refrence to the tortoise and the hare.

so I decided to make a long spread that will extend from back to the front cover. I think this is the best change I can make to this comic, making something more consistent with the actual story.

be on the look out for a much more finished and presentable copy.

what I have been up to

This is my final for my course in drawing the graphic novel. A large 18x24 comic based on an obituary story. what you see here is my make shift light table I made by using this glass counter top of a wheely table and  a desk lamp underneath.

this is after several hours of lettering and inking.  I am using 3 types of microns a 03, 05, and 08 size.

almost finished, this was probably around 12-1 am in the morning, I was tired and I figured I could finnish the rest in the morning at school which I did.

This past week has been crazy, I spend most of my time in my room working on projects, both personal and for school.

What has gotten me through this week is my current addiction to watching breaking bad.

This is such a good show, chemistry high school teacher turns into drug dealer making meth with former student in a camper in the desert of new mexico. sounds like a show for me.

lets hope my last week of school goes smoothly.
